Ellipsesin Sketchbook Pro

Fast, simple, reliable ... that is Sketchbook Pro. Always ready to serve you - anytime and anywhere. Just get your tablet PC and ideas. But, what if we need little bit more precision and control than Sketchbook offers? Let`s say ... ellipses... not easy, right?

Ok, here is a little workaround which uses new "Flood Fill All Visible Layers" tool.

Get the template file here. Load it in Sketchbook Pro and create the new layer. Then, make the template layer invisible and make your sketch.

Now, make your template layer visible again.

Use the Move/Scale/Rotate tool to align your selected ellipse with your sketch.
Note from the Sketchbook Help file: The pivot for rotation and scaling is in the center of the visible canvas when you entered the move, rotate, scale tool. To change the pivot, zoom and move the canvas until part of it is off-screen. Keep only that part of the canvas that you want centering on the pivot for rotation. Enter the move, rotate, scale tool again to use your new pivot.

Now, create the new layer, hide your sketch layer and fill in the wheel area with Flood Fill All Visible Layers tool - inside the new layer!

Hide your template layer and make visible your sketch layer. You can create another layer on top of the and fill the area with the white color and scale it down as I did here.

Notice, that there are also French curves - why not to use them for simple masking using the Lock Transparency feature? Simply create new layer again, fill it with selected color using "Flood Fill All Visible Layers". Then, erase unwanted and lock the transparency - now you can airbrush only inside the painted area.

Enjoy and don`t forget to share your solution with us!

  • This tutorial should work the same for both Mac and PC. The template file is just a simple jpg. And yes: SB Pro is available for both platforms: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=6848450 I hope this helps.
